To those humble men there in the quiet of an ordinary night, what a dazzling vision suddenly burst upon them! The heavens open, the angel of the Lord brings forth the glad tidings that the Savior has been born this night, and the heavenly host raise their voices in rejoicing. Here the artist tells the glad story by showing us the worshiping shepherd with his son, overcome by the sublime glory of the heavenly vision to be seen within our own inner imagination.
