THE ART OF BUYING NEW RELEASES
Isnt it wonderful when you find a work of art particularly stimulatingand can
afford to take it home and add it to your personal collection? You can appreciate it over
and over again, whenever you desire. Art and how it affects people is a very personal
thing, but many times we have heard customers tell us that they could kick themselves for
not purchasing something that really struck them emotionally when it was at issue price.
BUY ART THAT STIRS YOUR EMOTIONS
As an art collector youve seen works that stirred your emotions happiness,
exhilaration, or perhaps even a beautiful sadness. Youve seen art evoke fond
memories of things that were, and dreams of things that might have been. Your imagination
and sense of adventure have been aroused and guided into hitherto un-thought-of realms and
universes. And youve seen past events and people in all their special glory. You
connected with the art in some way, and it became valuable to you personally.
Collectors have paid millions of dollars for a single work of art sometimes far
in excess of any realistic investment valuesimply for the love of the piece.
Weve supplied collectors with originals, rare editions in the secondary market, and
anything else they desired, but weve seen no better approach to collecting than
purchasing a print one enjoys as a new release. When you see a work of art that stirs your
emotions, and you can purchase it at the issue price, you will not find a better bargain.
BUYING FOR INVESTMENT(Hint: Dont do it)
We do not recommend that you buy for investment, even though many pieces do go up in
value over the years. You should only buy what you are personally attracted to, and is
close to your heart. Buying at issue price something you love makes it no gamble at all.
Art does not have to appreciate monetarily to hold great value for you. You can still
appreciate the beauty of the artwork and enjoy it for many years. It can be passed on in
the family collection. If it does go up in monetary valuegreat! If you ever decide
to resell it, you can do so at a profit. Unfortunately if you want to cash in on its
monetary appreciation you have to part with the piece.
Just as an aside, suppose would have purchased the Mona Lisa for an
investment, at the original selling price when Leonardo daVinci completed it, and kept in
tact through the centuries. Did you know that you would have gotten a better return had
you kept your money in a passbook savings account during the same period of time, earning
only five percent interest each year?
THE SECONDARY MARKET
Once a print issue is sold out and is no longer available from the publisher, it can
only be purchased from another collector who previously obtained the printsomeone
willing to part with a print they own. Tastes change, or for whatever reason, the monetary
value of art can become more important than the continued ownership of the piece. This
creates a secondary market, but everything starts with an original release. This is the
best time to buy. B & R deals with many collectors around the country. We sometimes
buy and sell pieces on the secondary market. If we dont have what someone wants, we
look for it.
WHAT ART SHOULD YOU BUY?
We recommend that you buy what you like, and if what you like is at the issue price, do
not hesitate to grab it.
