The Sioux hold the spotlight watching General George Custer’s unapproved expedition into the Black Hills of South Dakota, which lead to the discovery of gold and a disastrous rush into the Indians’ sacred hunting ground.

“I wanted to emphasize the Sioux in this image," explains the artist. "Contrary to the title, story here is that they are being invaded. I used the late day light to bring out the rich colors and textures found in that area."
